They sit side by side on the same summit and share the access route, but they are entirely separate: the church is free and does not need a funfair ticket. You can visit one without the other.
The usual route is a train from the centre to Tibidabo, then the historic blue tram and the funicular; a bus also runs directly on certain days. Timetables are seasonal and differ between summer and winter, so check on the day before setting out.
Much wider, because you are much higher, but also further away, so the city's detail reads smaller. Park Güell gives a closer, better-framed view; Tibidabo gives you the whole city.

The church crowning Tibidabo, the highest point overlooking Barcelona, topped by a bronze Christ with arms outstretched. This is the building you see from almost anywhere in the city when you look up towards the mountain. It works on two levels: a dark neo-Romanesque lower church, and above it a lighter, taller neo-Gothic upper church. A lift climbs to a terrace at the foot of the statue, and from there comes the widest view over the city, the sea, and the Collserola hills behind. The view is the real reason to come up. On a clear day you see the whole city from mountain to sea, beating anything on offer from a terrace down in the streets. The wind at the top is strong even in summer, so bring a layer. The church sits beside the Tibidabo funfair and shares its access route: train or bus, then the blue tram or the funicular. Check the timetables for the way up before you set out, since they are seasonal and do not run every day.
