By papal decision at rare great occasions โ 2010 and 2015 the last major ostensions, drawing millions on free advance booking. Outside them no one sees it, whoever they are โ so plan to visit the story, not the object, or watch for the next ostension's announcement if that is your prime purpose.

Turin's cathedral is the Shroud's house and the city's one Renaissance oasis amid Baroque: a white-marble front of Tuscan spirit (1498) standing in elegant modesty among palatial splendour โ Turin's only surviving Renaissance church, its earlier Romanesque bell tower the elder neighbour. Its supreme draw sits at the apse: the Holy Shroud sealed in its climate case beneath Guarini's chapel (its dome seen from the Royal Palace route) โ shown only at the rare ostensions, a full-scale replica standing in permanently beside thorough explanation: visiting "the Shroud" is in practice visiting its copy and its story โ and that suffices well. Beside it lie the Roman theatre's remains and the Porta Palatina: Turin's oldest corner entire in one block.
