The Usina del Arte is a cultural centre and concert hall in La Boca, filling an old power station designed by the Italian architect Giovanni Chiogna and built between 1912 and 1916 for the Italo-Argentine Electricity Company. It powered the city for about eighty years, then stood abandoned, until it was restored and opened as a cultural centre in 2012. The red-brick building is Italian in style, with a tall clock tower visible from afar over the neighbourhood's rooftops. Inside are a large concert hall with excellent acoustics, exhibition rooms, a wide courtyard and a programme of concerts, shows and workshops. All activities are free, some booked ahead. It opens at weekends, with free afternoon guided tours on the building's history. It pairs well with nearby Caminito.
