La Bombonera, officially the Estadio Alberto José Armando, is the home of Boca Juniors in La Boca and one of the world's most famous football stadiums for its design, its club's history and its fierce atmosphere. Its nickname means «the chocolate box», after its designer saw a likeness between his plans and a box of sweets he had been given: near-vertical stands on three sides wrap the pitch like the walls of a box. Greats such as Maradona, Messi, Di Stéfano and Pelé have played here. Beside it, the Museo de la Pasión Boquense tells more than a century of club history through trophies, photos, films and shirts, and tours leave from it into the stadium itself, to the stands, boxes and pitchside. It opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00; times change or tours are cancelled on match and training days. It is a few steps from colourful Caminito, so the two pair well; explore the area by day and on the main streets.
