An old iron bridge over the Rioni river in the heart of Kutaisi, Georgia's second city, built in the late nineteenth century and now a city symbol. It is known from a famous Georgian film in which the hero jumps from the bridge into the river, and in its middle a small bronze statue of a boy in a hat sits on the edge, recalling that scene. Mid-span a transparent glass floor lets visitors stand above the river running between white rocks, with views of old houses on both banks and of Bagrati Cathedral on its hill. Around the bridge are a pedestrian street, cafés, and Colchis Square with its golden fountain a few minutes away. The bridge is always open and free. The glass floor can be slippery in rain, so take care with children. It is lovely in the evening when both banks are lit. Make it a stop on a walk around central Kutaisi, between the Colchis fountain and the central market.
