The Antiquarium is the longest Renaissance hall north of the Alps, inside Munich's Residenz palace. It runs about sixty-six metres, its long barrel vault painted from end to end, with ancient busts from Rome and Greece down both sides. It was built between 1568 and 1571 to display the antiquities collected by the Duke of Bavaria, and later became a banqueting hall. It is visited as part of the Residenz ticket, which covers dozens of other rooms, and this hall is usually the first thing visitors see and the thing they remember.

Two hours for the standard route, three if you add the Treasury. It is among the largest palace interiors in Europe with over a hundred rooms open, so do not try to see everything if time is short.
They are different: the Residenz is the city residence with the grand halls and the treasury, while Nymphenburg is a summer palace outside the centre with large gardens. With one day, the Residenz is nearer and easier; Nymphenburg is finer in clear weather because of its grounds.
