A large aquarium inside Beijing Zoo, near its north gate in Xizhimen, opened on 27 March 1999 in a blue, shell-like building of 42,000 square metres, next to the river, the planetarium and the exhibition centre. Its halls show tropical fish, coral reefs and sharks, with marine animal shows several times a day, and it can be combined with the zoo on a joint ticket. Tickets cost CNY 175, or 87 for children, students and seniors, and it is open from 9 am to 5.30 pm from April to October and from 10 am to 5 pm in winter, per visitor guides.
