A planetarium at Xizhimen, opposite Beijing Zoo, in two buildings: Building A of 1957, China's first large planetarium, with its domed Celestial Theatre where the starry sky is projected and two exhibition halls, and Building B, opened in 2004 behind a curving blue glass front, with a digital space theatre, 3D and 4D theatres, exhibition halls and two observatories. Its galleries cover the solar system, the stars and space exploration, and dome shows run through the day, so choose a time when you buy. The exhibition halls cost CNY 10 and the theatres CNY 30 to 45; it is open from 9 am to 4.30 pm, last entry 4 pm, and closed on Tuesdays except public holidays, per its official site. It pairs easily with the zoo across the road.
