The Binnenalster is the small one in the centre, ringed by buildings and shops. The Aussenalster behind is far larger and ringed by parks. The first is for a short walk, the second for a long one.
Yes in good weather. The trip covers both lakes and sometimes the narrow canals between houses, showing the city from a different angle. But they are seasonal and usually do not run in winter.

The Binnenalster is a roughly square lake in the middle of Hamburg, originally part of the river Alster dammed in medieval times. Today it is the defining feature of the city centre. Elegant buildings, department stores and hotels line it, with a promenade running the whole way round. A fountain in the centre rises about sixty metres and plays through the summer months. Walking round takes about half an hour and costs nothing. The larger lake behind it is the Aussenalster, far wider and ringed by parks and paths. Anyone wanting a longer walk heads there; the full circuit takes two to three hours. In winter, if the lake freezes hard enough, people are allowed to walk on it โ a rare event that brings out the whole city.
