The most famous Dutch settlement: the constitution names Amsterdam capital โ government, parliament, king and courts all Hague-seated since the counts' centuries. Practice says The Hague, symbol Amsterdam โ Holland living the duality crisis-free: every visitor's opening pragmatism lesson.
Passage, courts and lake always โ interiors shifting with workshop phases: ProDemos (the visitor centre facing the gate) runs whatever alternative tours and the temporary Commons allow. Wisdom: the exterior scene was the jewel anyway โ the scaffold itself a lesson in maintaining eight centuries.
Court then lake, the Buitenhof outer square with its cafรฉs, the adjoining Mauritshuis (Vermeer's pearl โ oddly outside our scan, miss it not), and the working royal Noordeinde palace on its royal shopping street โ the whole elegant power kilometre afoot.

The world's oldest working parliament as building: the Binnenhof โ 'inner court' โ the thirteenth-century castle of Holland's counts, governing the land continuously eight centuries: both parliamentary chambers and the prime minister's office (the famous 'little tower') behind these very walls today. Its jewel is the Ridderzaal, the twin-gabled Knights' Hall mid-court โ the 1280 timber hall where the king opens parliament yearly (September's third Tuesday: the Golden Coach procession) โ while the court itself is an open public passage The Hague crosses by bicycle and briefcase amid high politics. On its Hofvijver lake the towers reflect as the city's first postcard โ and the great restoration underway (to around 2028) wraps some wings in scaffold: the water view and courts stay open, interior tours mostly suspended until completion.
