The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is an Orthodox church in the centre of Banja Luka in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, the cathedral of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Banja Luka, standing on the city's main square. An earlier church on the site was built between 1925 and 1929; work on the present cathedral began in 1993, its exterior was finished on 26 September 2004, and it was consecrated in 2009. It is architecturally identical to its predecessor and is the tallest religious building in Banja Luka, with a 47-metre bell tower and a 22.5-metre dome. Its walls have three layers: stone, reinforced concrete and brick. The cathedral rises in walls banded with red and yellow travertine, crowned by gleaming gilded domes, with the tall clock-bearing bell tower beside it, set in a wide square among trees and older public buildings. Visitors admire the cathedral and its stone ornament from the square and may go inside, respecting service times. It is close to the main street and Kastel fortress.
