A modern promenade along the Bay of Asunción and the broad Paraguay River, running several kilometres with paths for walking, jogging and cycling and green spaces, now residents' favourite place for an evening stroll when the heat eases. It looks over the Palacio de López, the modern city towers and the river dividing Paraguay from Argentina. Parts of it have a Ferris wheel, play areas, event stages and kiosks selling juices and tereré, the cold herbal tea Paraguayans sip all day. The best time is sunset, when the sun sinks over the river and orange light reflects on the calm water, before the palace and city lights come on. At weekends it fills with families. Stay in lit, busy sections in the evening. Paraguayan summers are very hot and humid from November to March, so carry water and a hat; winter is milder for sightseeing.
