Daut Pasha Hamam is a 15th-century Ottoman bathhouse at the southern entrance to the Old Bazaar, a few steps from the Stone Bridge. It is named after Daut Pasha, an Ottoman statesman of the late 15th century, and is easy to recognise by its roof of domes, large and small, that once covered the hot and cold rooms of the bath. Today the building is the main home of the National Gallery of North Macedonia, founded in 1948. Its collection reaches back to the 14th century, from medieval works to the country's modern painting and sculpture, and the exhibits hang in the bath's domed chambers, where light falls through small openings in the vaults. The gallery also uses Čifte Hamam, another old bath inside the bazaar, for smaller exhibitions. Visitor guides give the hours as Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, with a modest fee in denars. Even if art is not your main interest, the domed rooms themselves are worth a look.
