Itu Station is the old central railway station of Itu in inland São Paulo state, opened on 17 April 1873 as one of the first stations of the Ituana railway company and one of its termini. After the company merged with the Sorocabana line, the track was extended beyond it in 1897, and in 1914 it became the branch towards Campinas. The station took passengers until 1976 and freight until 1985, then closed when the line was realigned; its rails were pulled up, but the city kept the building in good shape and housed its tourism office there. It was listed together with the town's historic centre in 2003. In 2008 work began to rebuild the old Itu–Salto line for a tourist service, the Trem Republicano, which opened after more than fifteen years of works on 19 December 2020, run by Serra Verde Express; a restaurant has operated in the station since 2022. Trips run at weekends; check the timetable and booking before going.
