Goiânia is a planned city laid out in the 1930s as the capital of Goiás, famous for Brazil's largest collection of Art Deco buildings. Among its historic landmarks is the old railway station facing Praça do Trabalhador, tied to the arrival of the railway in the new capital. The building was neglected for years after the trains stopped, then restored, and an old steam locomotive was returned to its original spot in front of the former platform. Today it houses most of the administration of the Goiás state culture secretariat, along with cultural uses and exhibitions on the station's history. The building is worth a stop for its façade, its locomotive and its place in the city's memory, and can be combined with the nearby Frei Confaloni Museum on the same square. Check which exhibitions are open before visiting.

No, trains stopped long ago; it is now a cultural and administrative building.
