The Professor Zoroastro Artiaga Goiás Museum is a public institution in Goiânia, one of the state's oldest museums and a reference for preserving the history and culture of Goiás. It was created by decree on 6 February 1946 and officially opened that July; its first director was Zoroastro Artiaga, a teacher, lawyer, geologist and historian who assembled the first collections of historic documents, rocks, folk pieces and Indigenous artefacts, and the museum has borne his name since 1965. The museum stands on the Civic Square in an Art Deco building put up in 1942–1943, with archaeological, mineral and ethnographic pieces and folk art reflecting the region's cultural and historical diversity. The building was restored from November 2024 at a cost of R$6.6 million, keeping its historic features, and reopened in March 2026 with an exhibition of contemporary art from Goiás. Entry is usually free; access is from the side of the building because of works on the square, so check opening times.
