Morning at the KMSKA (the essential, two to four hours), lunch in the district's restaurants around Marnixplaats, afternoon at FOMU or MoMu (10 minutes' walk north), evening in the cafés. The Zuid is Antwerp's elegant contemporary face — a full day without the old town.

FOMU is Antwerp's photography museum and among Europe's foremost: in an old 1920s industrial warehouse in the Zuid district, restored over a large area with broad exhibition halls on several floors, it joins a huge historical collection (cameras and photographs from photography's dawn to today) with contemporary temporary exhibitions by international and Belgian photographers. The museum runs essentially on rotating exhibitions: three or four at a time, from great photographers to contemporary artistic experiments, with a permanent section on the camera's history and early techniques. It also holds an art cinema (cinematek), a library and a café — a cultural centre more than a traditional museum. In the Zuid with the KMSKA steps away — for the photography lover: a major destination; for others: it depends on the current show.
