Take the first great halls for sheer scale, then find the Tempest and give it five minutes, and finish in the Carpaccio story rooms โ they read like cinema with no background needed.
Different audiences: five centuries of classic Venetian painting here, twentieth-century modernism in a canal house there. They are ten minutes apart โ doing both is the right answer if the half-day allows.

The Accademia is the treasury of Venetian painting: the world's greatest collection of the school of colour that changed European art โ Bellini, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Tiepolo โ housed in a former convent and scuola beside the Grand Canal at the Accademia bridge. Here is Giorgione's "Tempest", the small enigma that has defeated five centuries of interpretation; Carpaccio's vast narrative cycles telling legends in purely Venetian detail; and Leonardo's Vitruvian Man โ the most famous drawing on earth โ shown only for short spells because light harms it.
