The old-town view
The best view of historic Dresden, because the tower stands right at its centre.
The Hausmannsturm is the tallest tower of Dresden's Residenzschloss, its oldest parts dating to the fifteenth century. It was destroyed in the 1945 bombing like the rest of the city, then rebuilt and opened to visitors. The climb combines a lift in the lower section with an old stone stair, ending on an open terrace looking over the whole historic centre: the dome of the Frauenkirche, the roofs of the Zwinger, and the Elbe with its bridges. This is the best view of the old town, because the tower stands right in the middle of it.

Moderate. There is a lift for the lower part, but the upper section is a narrow stone stair. Easier than most church towers, though not stair-free.
For the historic centre, yes, because it stands within it. If you want the whole old town seen from outside as a panorama, the north bank of the river or a boat trip gives you that better.
It is usually included in the Residenzschloss ticket, which also covers the Green Vault and other museums. Ask at the ticket desk before buying so you do not pay twice.
