One of Margilan's oldest mosques, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries according to the heritage plaque on its wall, and renovated in the 2000s. Its front now has two minarets, each 26 m tall, and a green dome. The original carved wooden pillars survive, a wooden iwan with a painted ceiling wraps the tree-shaded courtyard, and inside, a decorated dome holds a large chandelier. Margilan is an old city, known in Islamic times as Marghinan, home of the Hanafi jurist Burhan al-Din al-Marghinani, author of the legal work «al-Hidaya». Today it is Uzbekistan's silk capital. Entry is free. It is a working mosque, so dress modestly, women cover their hair, and prayer times are best avoided. The Yodgorlik Silk Factory is about 650 m away.
