Three comfortable hours for all three: at least ninety minutes for the main museum, since the Mondrian collection alone deserves that, forty minutes for the photography wing depending on the show, and half an hour for KM21. Add lunch in the museum cafe. If you only have two hours, take the main museum first and give whatever is left to the two wings.

KM21 is the contemporary art space within The Hague's Kunstmuseum complex, known as GEM until it was renamed in 2019 after the twenty-first century it specialises in. Its scope is clearly drawn: art of today only โ installation, video, performance, sound, digital media and contemporary painting, usually by artists in mid-career rather than established names. There is no permanent collection on show, but a programme of exhibitions changing several times a year. The division within the complex is deliberate: the main museum for classic modern art and Mondrian, the photography wing for photography, and KM21 for what is newer than either. One ticket usually covers all three, so visiting KM21 costs nothing extra and rewards half an hour even for someone who came for Mondrian.
