A government complex for traditional Malaysian crafts on Jalan Conlay, steps from the malls of Bukit Bintang, combining a craft museum, galleries, shops and a small artisans' village. The museum and galleries show batik, songket woven with gold thread, pottery, woodcarving, silverwork and woven baskets from Malaysia's different states, with explanations of how they are made and where they come from. In the artisans' village are small workshops where you can watch painters and batik and pottery makers at work, and you can try painting a piece of batik yourself in a paid workshop and take it home. The shops sell authentic gifts at fixed prices, a good alternative to bargaining markets. Entry is free, it opens daily from nine in the morning to six in the evening, and it has a local food court. It makes a good stop on a day between Pavilion and the Petronas Towers.
