A popular covered market in Nipponbashi near Namba, known locally as «Osaka's kitchen», stretching several hundred metres under a roof of glass and steel, lined with small shops. It sells fresh seafood and fish, premium Japanese fruit, vegetables, pickles, sweets and kitchenware, and many vendors grill seafood in front of customers and serve it on sticks or small plates to eat on the spot. Chefs and restaurant owners shop here in the morning, and visitors come to taste fresh food. It is a few minutes' walk from Dōtonbori and Namba, so they combine easily. Walking around is free, and most shops open from morning until about 17:00 or 18:00, per visitor guides, with mornings the busiest. Prices run higher than ordinary markets because of the tourist crowds, and much of the food is seafood, so ask about ingredients if you follow a special diet.
