A large hill park in the heart of Shenzhen, opened in 1997 at the northern end of the Futian business district and covering about 150 hectares of green hills, lakes and plazas; its name means «Lotus Hill». On the hilltop stands a 6 m bronze statue of the Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, who launched the reform and opening-up policy that turned Shenzhen from rural villages into China's first special economic zone; the statue sits on the city's central axis. The top has a superb view over the towers of Futian, including the soaring Ping An tower, and the slopes hold a well-known square for kite flyers, lakes and walking paths. Entry is free, 06:00–23:00, per visitor guides. The climb to the top is easy, about twenty minutes; early morning or just before sunset is best, and Children's Palace metro station is nearby.
