A steel arch bridge over the Huangpu River linking Huangpu District with Pudong, opened on 28 June 2003. Its main span of 550 m made it the world's longest arch bridge when it opened, and it is now the third-longest steel arch bridge, with a total length of 3,900 m including approaches. Its arch rises about 100 m above the water beside the site of Expo 2010, of which it was the centrepiece, and it is best seen from the riverside walkways of the Expo area and the Xuhui waterfront, especially when lit in the evening. Viewing the bridge from either bank is free; it carries road traffic only, and the riverside walks around it are pleasant at sunset.
