Frankfurt is the only German city with a real skyline, and this is the best place to see it.
The Main Tower is the only one open to the public with an outdoor platform. Some towers have restaurants with views, but they need a booking and an order. If you only want the view, this is your option; to see the towers themselves from outside, use the cathedral tower or the Eiserner Steg.
Half an hour to an hour before sunset: you get the daytime view, then watch the lights come on. Avoid cloudy days entirely โ the whole value is visibility.
Forty-five minutes including the queue and lifts. On holidays the line can be long, so allow an hour. Large bags are not permitted, so do not arrive with luggage.

The Main Tower is a skyscraper in central Frankfurt and the only tower in the city whose roof is open to the public. It stands about 240 metres with its aerial, and two fast lifts take you to the platform on the fifty-fourth floor in under a minute. The view from the top is the best thing in Frankfurt: the banking towers seen from above, the river Main cutting through the city, the small red-roofed old town, and on clear days the distant Taunus hills. The platform is open to the air, so check the weather before going up.

The river cutting through with its bridges โ from above it makes sense of the whole city's layout.
The platform stays open late, and the lit city from above is an entirely different sight.
