Willy-Brandt-Platz is a large square in central Frankfurt, best known for the euro sculpture: a huge blue € sign fourteen metres high ringed by yellow stars. It has become one of the most photographed things in the city and a symbol of Frankfurt as Europe's financial capital. The sculpture was put up in 2001 in front of the European Central Bank's old tower, and stayed in place after the bank moved to its new headquarters east of the city. Around the square are the old opera house and bank buildings, with a large metro station underneath. The square is open and free at all times.

The banking skyscrapers ring the square, and this is the closest place to see them from below.

The old tower still stands on the square, and the euro sculpture stayed in front of it. To see the new headquarters you have to go to a different part of the city.
A quarter of an hour for the square and photographs at the sculpture. It is a stop on a walk through central Frankfurt rather than a destination — combine it with the Alte Oper and the Zeil shopping street.
After sunset, when the sculpture glows blue and the towers light up behind it — that is the familiar image of Frankfurt. By day the picture is plainer, though the square is quieter early in the morning.
