It fills the huge 1656 Admiralty warehouse on the harbour, with a courtyard under a stunning star-patterned glass roof that has become an architectural icon. Its star is moored at its quay: a full-size replica of the Dutch East India Company ship Amsterdam โ you board it and descend into its holds, living the seafaring life that built the nation's wealth. Inside are rare navigation maps, ship models, cannon, sea-battle paintings, and interactive wings for children about voyages and storms. It explains the Golden Age from its true angle โ the sea โ and completes the Rijks perfectly. For families the ship alone earns the visit.
