Matterhorn Museum — Zermatlantis

A feverish English-Italian race for the last summit: Edward Whymper assembled companions and guides in haste and beat his Italian rival by the Swiss shoulder — and on the descent a slip snapped the rope with four: a clergyman, two young Londoners, a Chamonix guide. The inquest cleared the survivors, London accused, Whymper lived hunted by his glory — and the papers made the triangle earth's most famous mountain forever.

Built for them first: village, tales and a tragedy's rope told as drama, not technique — children past seven are charmed by descending to the 'sunken village'. Climbers find their details; everyone else, the story.

Around the church directly overhead: the climbers' cemetery with a century and a half of stones — 'he saw the mountain one last time' and their kin — the three recovered of 1865 among them. The silent sunset visit after the museum is a mountain people's known close.
