On a limited budget or with young children: **Sunnegga** — five minutes up, cheapest, with a lake and playground. On a clear day with an open budget: **Gornergrat**, because its panorama is wider and the journey is itself an experience. For thrill-seekers wanting the highest: **Glacier Paradise**. General advice: go up early in every case, since the Matterhorn frequently disappears behind cloud after midday.

Sunnegga ("sunny corner") is a terrace at 2,288 metres above Zermatt, and the easiest, quickest and cheapest Matterhorn viewpoint: an **underground funicular** bored into the mountain climbs from the middle of the village in **just five minutes** — no waiting and no long journey. At the top is a sunny terrace with a restaurant and a viewing platform, and a little below it lies **Leisee** — the warmest mountain lake in the area (the bold swim in August) which also mirrors the Matterhorn, with a children's playground and an educational discovery trail. This makes Sunnegga **the first family choice** in Zermatt. From it begins the region's most famous walk: the **Five Lakes Trail** (Fünfseenweg), passing five mountain lakes, three of which reflect the Matterhorn. From Sunnegga you can also continue by cable car to Blauherd and on to the Rothorn (3,103 m).
