Morro do Pico is the highest point of the Fernando de Noronha archipelago at 323 metres, visible from almost anywhere on the main island. It is the summit of a huge volcanic seamount rising from the ocean floor some 4,000 metres down, and the Noronha volcano is estimated at between 1.8 and 12.3 million years old. Climbing it has been banned for more than twenty years, allowed only to service the antennas and lightning rods on top, so it is enjoyed from below: it rises from the left end of Conceição beach and appears at the right end of Boldró beach, whose other end holds the Fortinho do Boldró viewpoint, one of Noronha's classic sunset spots. The highest viewpoint you can actually reach on the island is on the Piquinho trail, which starts from the Conceição beach road, with a view from Boldró to Ponta da Sapata.
