The Enrique Larreta Museum of Spanish Art fills the home of the writer Enrique Larreta in Belgrano, a devotee of Spanish literature and art. The house began as an Italianate summer villa built in 1886; Larreta remodelled it in neo-colonial style after his marriage in 1903, making it one of the city's loveliest homes. Its collection spans the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century: furniture, paintings, wood carvings, textiles and silver, mostly from Spain. Its best feature is a quiet Andalusian garden of fountains, paths and old trees, including a rare ginkgo and a century-old wisteria that blooms purple in spring. The museum is close to Plaza Belgrano and the Barrancas park, so it pairs with them in half a day. Check opening days and fees before visiting.
