The Anita House Museum is a small house dating from 1711 in the historic centre of Laguna, where in 1835 Anita Garibaldi dressed for her first wedding, to the shoemaker Manoel Duarte de Aguiar, years before she met the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi and fought in the wars of Brazil and Italy. The museum traces Anita's life and her relationship with Garibaldi, showing period furniture, personal belongings and an urn holding soil from the heroine's grave in Italy. The house has been restored twice, in the 1970s and in 2019; it is listed by the national heritage institute and run by Laguna's cultural foundation. With its simple façade and coloured doors, the house is one of the old town's signature images, visited in a few minutes on a walk around the historic centre with the nearby Anita Garibaldi Museum.
