The Immigration Museum of the State of São Paulo occupies the Immigrant Inn in Mooca, opened in 1887 to receive newcomers to the state and house them in their first days. The site grew into a historical centre and then a museum, and reopened on 31 May 2014 after a three-and-a-half-year restoration. Inside are a wooden wall engraved with more than 14,000 family names, the long-term exhibition «Migrate: Experiences, Memories and Identities», reconstructions of the inn's dormitory and dining hall, and over 12,000 objects donated by immigrants and their descendants, from suitcases to furniture. At weekends, heritage steam-train rides leave from the historic railway platform inside the complex. It opens Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-18:00 and Sunday 10:00-18:00, with the ticket office closing at 17:00. Tickets are R$16 (R$8 reduced), and entry is free on Saturdays.
