The Solar Monjardim Museum is a public history museum in the Santa Cecília district of Vitória, run by the Brazilian Institute of Museums and the only federal museum in the state of Espírito Santo. It occupies an 18th-century manor house considered the oldest surviving private rural building from the state's colonial period, once the seat of the Jucutuquara farm. The farm belonged to the Jesuits; after their expulsion it was bought by the merchant Gonçalo Pereira Pinto, whose land stretched from Capixaba hill to Ponta de Tubarão, producing cassava flour and later coffee, and in the early 19th century it passed to the Monjardim family, who gave the house its name. The house has eleven bedrooms, three halls, a kitchen with tiled floors and a long veranda, and the outbuildings were home workshops and quarters for enslaved people. The collection of about 4,000 items, furniture, household utensils and antiques, is arranged to recreate the home of a wealthy rural family in the 19th century. Entry is usually free; opening times differ between sources, so check before visiting.
