The Gruta da Onça Park, the «Jaguar's Cave», is a municipal park in central Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo, covering some 69,000 square metres of typical Atlantic Forest vegetation in the heart of the city. At the entrance a concrete sculpture of a spotted jaguar guards a clear spring, which gave the place its name. The park is full of springs and small streams surrounded by striking greenery in the middle of the city, and slopes and stairways lead to little squares and rustic paths in the shade of giant trees. It makes a quiet, shady walk away from the heat of the streets, close to the historic sights of central Vitória, and pairs well with the nearby Capixaba Market and Moscoso Park.
