The Capixaba Market is a historic building in central Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo, on Avenida Jerônimo Monteiro, one of the centre's main streets, once called Avenida Capixaba. It was built in 1926 under governor Florentino Avidos to replace the old municipal market. It was designed by the Czech architect Joseph Pitilick in eclectic and neoclassical forms and was listed as heritage in 1983. On the night of 13 September 2002 a fire that started on the ground floor destroyed the roof of the second floor, and the building stood abandoned for years. A full restoration began in 2022 and the building reopened in 2024 as a commercial and cultural space run by a private company, hosting shops and cultural events such as chorinho music afternoons. It makes a short stop on a walk through Vitória's historic centre; check which shops and events are on.
