The National Museum of Natural History is not one building but a whole kingdom: the historic Jardin des Plantes (1635) and everything it holds — the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution with its famous animal procession, the paleontology hall with its ranks of dinosaur skeletons, the mineralogy gallery's giant-crystal treasures, the great glass tropical houses, and the zoo of 1794, among the world's oldest. The garden itself — stately allées, seasonal beds, the botany school — is free from dawn to dusk, the southern Latin Quarter's favourite lung. Each venue around it tickets separately, and no single pass covers everything — which is honestly an organisational mercy: the complex outsizes a single day anyway. Plan by the two-per-day rule: the Grande Galerie plus the garden for a first-visit family, fossils plus zoo for young dinosaur people, greenhouses plus minerals for a rainy day — all converging on the garden cafés and, across the wall, the Grand Mosque of Paris with its tearoom.
