The Ópera de Arame, the Wire Opera House, is a see-through theatre of steel tubes and a transparent roof standing in an artificial lake in an old quarry ringed by forest, reached by a walkway over the water. Designed by the architect Domingos Bongestabs, its frame weighs 360 tonnes of steel; it was built in just 75 days, opened on 18 March 1992, and seats about 2,400. The building looks like a cage of metal lace among the rocks and trees. Live music plays on a floating stage on the lake by day, and the complex has forest trails and a restaurant. A visit takes an easy hour and pairs well with the nearby Parque Tanguá.
