Parque Tanguá is one of Curitiba's loveliest parks, opened on 23 November 1996 on the site of two old quarries abandoned in the 1970s, whose rock walls now frame two lakes and an artificial tunnel, over 235,000 square metres protecting the headwaters of the Barigui River. Its upper part holds the Poty Lazzarotto Garden with flowers and fountains, and a lookout rising 65 metres above the lower lake, over the water and the quarry walls. There are paths for walking, running and cycling, and a café. It is most popular at sunset, when people gather at the lookout to watch the sun go down over the quarry. Entry is free, and it opens daily from 6 in the morning to 8 at night.
