The Palácio dos Festivais is a building on Avenida Borges de Medeiros, the main street of Gramado in the Rio Grande do Sul mountains, known for hosting the Gramado Film Festival, one of Brazil's biggest film events. The palace is built in a colonial style, its facade adorned by the Kikito, the statuette given as the festival's top award, designed by the artist Elizabeth Rosenfeld and said to symbolise the «god of good humour». The screening hall seats about 1,100 and runs a varied film programme through the year as the Cine Embaixador. It makes a stop during a walk through central Gramado, and you can catch a film in its hall. During the festival, usually in August, the avenue fills with visitors and the red carpet; check the screening and festival programme.
