The Palácio Potengi, officially the «Potengi Palace Cultural Space», is a historic public building on Praça Sete de Setembro in the Cidade Alta district of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte. It was built between 1866 and 1873 to a design by the engineer Ernesto Augusto Amorim do Vale and is one of the city's leading examples of neoclassical architecture. It is named after the Potengi river, bound up with Natal's history. It was first built for the Provincial Assembly and government offices, and at various times housed the treasury, the post office, the town council and the jury court. In 1902 it became the seat of the state government and remained so until 1995, when the government moved to its new administrative centre and the building was given over to culture as home of the «State Pinacoteca», the state's art museum. It was listed by the national heritage institute in 1965 and underwent a major restoration between 2018 and 2021. It hosts exhibitions of local art, and press reports from 2025 put its opening days at Tuesday to Sunday, so check times before visiting.
