Parque da Luz is a leisure green space in central Florianópolis covering 37,435 square metres at the top of Rua Felipe Schmidt, on a hill once known by several names, including Colina da Vista Alegre and Morro do Barro Vermelho. As it sits at the island end of the Hercílio Luz Bridge, the park has a lookout over this historic landmark, the suspension bridge linking the island to the mainland, as well as the city's urban waterfront. It is run today by the Friends of Parque da Luz association. The park has a leisure area, a sundial, footpaths, a football pitch, a fruit-tree nursery, benches and tables. It is a quiet spot to see the bridge up close, especially at sunset when its lights come on, and is within walking distance of the centre.
