Sólon de Lucena Park, known as the «Lagoon Park», is a public space in the centre of João Pessoa, capital of Paraíba, and one of the city's leading symbols. At its heart lies a lagoon with a broad circular sheet of water ringed by towering imperial palms, surrounded by fine gardens and shade trees, making it one of the city's best-known postcards and the stage for important social events. Given its central location, the park is surrounded by shops, hotels, restaurants, bus stops and buildings of historic and cultural value, and it has food kiosks. Together with Arruda Câmara Park and Praça da Independência it is one of the main green spaces in the city centre, where people come to walk around the lagoon and sit, and where events and celebrations are held. The nicest time is a stroll around the lagoon in the morning or at sunset, when the palms reflect on the water. Entry is free; keep an eye on belongings as anywhere busy.
