The Newton Navarro Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over the Potengi River in Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte, linking the North Zone and the northern coastal towns with the South Zone and the rest of the city. It is one of the largest cable-stayed bridges in Brazil, designed by the Italian engineer Mario de Miranda and named after the local artist Newton Navarro. It eased the load on the old Igapó Bridge and made the way to Natal's international airport and the beaches of the north coast easier, boosting tourism there. With its tall pylons and cables it has become part of the city's skyline, especially at sunset over the river. The bridge can be seen free from both riverbanks, and from the car as you cross on the way to northern beaches such as Genipabu.
