Praça Benedito Calixto is a square in the west of São Paulo, between Cardeal Arcoverde and Teodoro Sampaio streets, named after the painter Benedito Calixto, one of the leading figures of Brazilian painting in the early 20th century. The square is known for its weekly «Feira da Praça», held every Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm since 1987 with about 320 stallholders selling all kinds of crafts, artworks and antiques, plus a food court. Twice a month, in the performance corner, writers meet the public to sign their books in the «Autor na Praça» project. Every Saturday from 2:30 to 6:30 pm a traditional group plays chorinho, one of Brazil's oldest popular music styles, and choirs sometimes close the fair at 6 pm. The square makes a Saturday among antiques and music in the west of the city.
