Praia do Pontal is the closest beach to Paraty's historic centre, just across the Pontal bridge over the Perequê-Açu River at the edge of the old town, so a short walk over the bridge takes you there in minutes. The beach faces Paraty Bay with calm, shallow water, looking out at moored boats, green islands in the bay and the hill of the nearby Defensor Perpétuo fort. Kiosks and simple restaurants serving fish and seafood line the sand. It is not the prettiest beach in the area, but it is the easiest place to rest after a walk through the cobbled streets or to watch the sunset over the bay. Its water is usually less clear than at the beaches further out reached by boat, so many people come here simply to sit and stroll.
