The Prince of Monaco's Car Collection is a museum showing the personal collection assembled by Prince Rainier III over thirty years. It holds nearly one hundred classic European and American cars, along with old horse-drawn carriages, and it draws car lovers even if they care little for the Grand Prix itself. The prince opened it to the public in 1993, when it outgrew the palace garage. Thirty-eight cars went to auction in 2012, as Prince Albert II wished to reorganise it. It stood on the Terrasses de Fontvieille until moving in July 2022 to a modern building at Port Hercules. It also shows donated or loaned cars, such as a Ferrari driven by Charles Leclerc in 2019. Highlights include the Bugatti Type 35 that won the first Monaco Grand Prix in 1929 and the Citroën that Sébastien Loeb drove to victory in the 2013 Monte Carlo Rally. You also see black carriages with red wheels, an old motorcycle, a tracked polar vehicle, helmets of famous drivers and close-up views of luxury car mascots. It stands beside the Rainier III Nautical Stadium, about 250 m in a straight line from Sainte-Dévote Church. Sources differ on hours, with one giving 10:00 to 18:00, to 19:00 in summer, and closure on 19 November, 25 December and Grand Prix days, so check ahead. Do not touch the cars, and stay behind the barriers.
