It is far smaller than the Mercedes or Porsche museums in Stuttgart or BMW in Munich. If you are visiting those cities, do not make it a priority. But if you are in Hamburg and will not see those, it is a good, short option beside the other HafenCity sights.
One to two hours. It is a moderate size across two floors. Combine it with Miniatur Wunderland and the Speicherstadt nearby โ all in the same area.
Reasonably yes: the simulators and racing cars appeal, and the place is small enough that they do not tire of it. But most exhibits are to look at rather than touch, and very young children may not find enough to occupy them.

Prototyp is a small car museum in Hamburg's HafenCity, housed in a reused industrial building. It concentrates on racing cars and early German prototypes, above all Porsche and sports cars of the 1950s and 1960s. It is far smaller than the great car museums in Stuttgart and Munich, but that is part of its appeal: everything is close at hand and can be seen in an hour or two without exhaustion. The display focuses on the stories of the engineers and drivers rather than on figures alone, and there are driving simulators that children enjoy.
