A walled rose garden inside Parque del Oeste, the large park running down the western slope of Madrid. The space is laid out in regular geometric beds separated by paths, holding a large number of rose varieties arranged and labelled. Timing is everything here. The garden peaks in May and early June when most varieties flower together, and in that period an annual competition for new roses makes it a local destination. Outside that season it stays tidy but quiet and largely without bloom, and you may find it disappointing in winter. The larger park around it is worth the walk on its own: wooded slopes, long paths, and the station for the cable car that crosses to the Casa de Campo. Entry is free and the visit is short. Make it part of a half day in the Moncloa area together with the nearby Temple of Debod, rather than a trip of its own.

The Temple of Debod is within walking distance, and it is the best place in Madrid to watch the sunset.

The Temple of Debod is walkable and the best-known thing in the area, and the cable car station for the Casa de Campo is inside the larger park. The three together make a comfortable half day in Moncloa.
